7 Best Software for Electrical Contractors and Electricians in 2026

Shifton Field Service (our own product) fits electrical crews running fault calls and inspections as checklist tasks: free for up to 2 employees, then $5 per employee a month. ServiceM8 fits a sole trader or small crew: free for 1 user and 30 jobs a month, then from $29. Knowify fits commercial work with progress billing, from $99 a month billed yearly. Prices checked on 20 October 2026.

Software for electrical contractors is priced in units that do not compare directly. Tradify charges per person, Service Fusion per tier with unlimited users, ServiceM8 by job volume, and FieldPulse and ServiceTitan publish no price at all. Whether a product is one of the electrician apps built around a phone or a project billing system with the contract at its center, a headline figure cannot be compared without a headcount and a job count.

Every finished electrical job leaves a test result or certificate to file, photographs of the board, the materials that went into the work and a bill that has to match all of it, and the job of electrician software is to keep that trail in one place. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 821,000 electrician jobs in 2025 and projects 9 percent growth through 2035, which its Occupational Outlook Handbook rates as much faster than average. For the trade-specific view of how Shifton approaches the same work, see how Shifton Field Service handles electrical work.

ServiceM8

Best for a sole trader or small crew that would rather count jobs than people: a free plan with 1 user and 30 jobs a month, unlimited users from $29

Knowify

Best for commercial and project work: progress billing and AIA pay applications on every tier, job costing from the Advanced tier

Why trust us?

Shifton Field Service is our product, and it is first on this list. Weigh that before reading anything below.

The remaining six follow by published entry price, with the two quote-only vendors last. Prices, plan limits and trial terms were read off each vendor's own pricing and electrician pages on 20 October 2026, and a vendor that publishes no price is marked as quote-only and left unestimated.

What Software for Electrical Contractors Has to Handle

A fault call is placed today, the paperwork asked for later. A shared calendar handles the first.

A job record has to hold:

  • Urgent and planned work on one board. Fault calls arrive the same day, while inspection and testing visits are booked weeks ahead. A scheduler is tested by whether the first can be placed without rebuilding the second.
  • Test results and certificates made on site. A form completed on the phone is finished once, with photos and a customer signature attached.
  • Materials tied to the job. What was fitted has to reach the invoice, so check whether the tool attaches materials to the job or leaves them to memory.
  • A bill built from the finished work. Payment mechanics are compared in our separate review of invoicing tools for contractors; here the only question is whether the invoice can be read off the job.

NFPA calls the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) the benchmark for safe electrical design, installation and inspection, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics handbook cited above notes that most states require electricians to be licensed.

Digital job forms with photo and signature fields are the mechanism for the test sheet, and the same forms can carry a checklist before work starts.

Which Are the 7 Best Software Tools for Electrical Contractors?

Shifton Field Service

Shifton Field Service handles an urgent fault and a booked inspection the same way: as a task with a client, an address, a deadline, a status and a checklist, assigned to a named electrician. The address sets the service area, which decides who can be offered the job, and a job cannot be dispatched without one. License numbers and certificate expiry dates are not tracked, so "qualified" means assigned to that area and role.

The checklist attached to the task holds the test sheet and is completed on the phone, with free text, numeric readings, drop-downs, a camera photo and a signature box. Editing a form later changes new tasks only, so earlier visits keep the version they were done with. Forms, reports and mobile access belong to the Tasks base module and so to the free plan; the completion certificate belongs to the paid Invoicing module.

Shifton Field Service Management software homepage with a job card showing task details and GPS tracking active

  • Free for up to 2 employees with no time limit while no module is on; above that, the Tasks module is $5 per employee a month, and annual billing takes 20 percent off
  • Four paid modules at $5 per employee a month each: Work location control (GPS) and Inventory, then Invoicing and Customer Portal. Trials run up to 55 days, and any module also starts the $5 charge for Tasks for every employee
  • Inventory moves tools and materials between warehouses and technicians by confirmed transfers; materials used on a visit belong to the task and feed the invoice
  • The iOS and Android app keeps the job record on the device without signal and syncs later; a technician can time a task but cannot create tasks or add clients
  • Recurring visits put inspection and testing cycles on the board ahead of time, and QuickBooks Online syncs clients both ways

Shifton Field Service has no pricebook, no estimate calculator (quotes are only documents inside Invoicing) and no staged invoicing with AIA pay applications, and its GPS sits in its own module.

Best for: Shifton Field Service suits electrical firms that mix service calls with periodic inspections and need the paperwork to leave the job finished. A shop pricing from a supplier list or invoicing in stages will miss what Tradify or Knowify carry.

ServiceM8

ServiceM8 charges by the number of jobs a month, not by the number of people. Free is $0 for 1 user and 30 jobs. Starter is $29 for 50 jobs, Growing $79 for 150, Premium $149 for 500 and Premium Plus $349 for 1500 or more, with unlimited users on every paid tier. Only "/mo" is printed, so whether the rate is paid yearly or by the month is not stated. A job credit is spent when a new job card is created; a quote turned into a work order does not spend another, and going over the limit allows another 7 days of new jobs before an upgrade is requested.

ServiceM8's electrician page lists PDF forms and certificates of compliance completed on site, plus checklists and job notes with photos and video. It also covers materials, time on site, client sign-off, card payment on the spot and a live Track My Arrival map for the client, running from the client's call to reconciliation.

ServiceM8 electrician job management software with a phone screen showing a job, billing and diary

  • Custom forms, built by the customer or by a partner, start at Growing; the 250 and more pre-made forms in the Form Store can be bought and used at every tier, the Free one included
  • Progress Invoicing starts at Starter. Growing brings Bundles, Proposals and Asset Management, which keeps a service history for each installation; Premium brings Job Costing and Markup Billing
  • A 14-day trial with full access and no card; no lock-in, and a switch between tiers is credited pro rata

ServiceM8 support is chat and email around the clock, and the Android app is described as almost identical to the iOS one. Free texts cost 10 cents each, while the paid tiers include 100 or more a month on Starter, rising to 3000 or more on Premium Plus. ServiceM8 names no accounting package, and offline use goes unmentioned. Best for: ServiceM8 for a sole trader or a small crew whose job count stays modest.

Tradify

$47 for Lite, $51 for Pro or $61 for Plus: that is Tradify's per-user ladder, and a fourth tier, Custom, is quoted on request, with team pricing also offered on request. There is no free plan, but the 14-day trial includes every feature and needs no card. There is no contract and cancelling is allowed at any time, and training and phone support are free.

Tradify leans toward the quote. Supplier lists load from a CSV file, and kits turn work the crew repeats into a stored bundle of parts and labor, which saves retyping when the next invoice is raised. A customer can accept a quote online from the email it was sent in, and the accounting side syncs with QuickBooks Online and, two ways, with Xero. The product runs on desktop and tablet as well as iPhone and Android. Test results and certificates go unmentioned on its trade page.

Tradify electrical contractor software page with a free trial button and a job details card beside an electrician on a ladder

  • Lite: job management with Google Calendar sync; quotes and invoices with markups; online card payments; email tracking; the Xero and QuickBooks Online sync
  • Pro adds job photos and files, recurring jobs, job templates, appointment reminders, online quote acceptance, progress invoicing with deposits and retentions, bill tracking, timesheets and subcontractor scheduling
  • Plus adds purchase orders that go straight to the supplier, kit bundles, service reminders for scheduled maintenance, bulk invoicing and reporting; the AI SmartTools are Plus only

With Tradify the catch is arithmetic for a growing crew: every person added is a $47 to $61 seat, and what an electrician reaches for on a job (photos, timesheets, staged invoicing) starts at Pro. Best for: Tradify for electricians who price from a supplier list and want the quote, the job and the bill in one place.

Knowify

Knowify is built around contracts rather than service calls: its entry tier, Core, is aimed at fixed-price and AIA jobs, from the bid to the invoice. Knowify's electrician page adds that the same software covers service calls and projects.

Mind the billing toggle. Core includes 1 user and costs $99 a month on yearly billing and $149 on monthly. Advanced includes 10 users at $329 yearly and $399 monthly, and each additional user is $29 a month. Enterprise is "Talk to us". A service department adds the Service Pro module, covering dispatch, equipment records and reminders, at $99 a month yearly or $199 monthly on top of the base price. A 14-day free trial needs no card; Knowify's electrician text states it, while the pricing table names no length.

Knowify trade contractor project management software page with a contract jobs table showing phases, invoiced and cost bars

  • Every tier carries progress billing, AIA pay applications (G702 and G703), a CRM, scheduling, time tracking and change orders, with unlimited jobs and unlimited photos
  • Job costing, WIP reporting, work orders, daily logs and the client portal start at Advanced; Core has none of them
  • Custom forms, RFIs, submittals, unlimited users and QuickBooks Desktop are Enterprise only, and Zapier starts at Advanced
  • QuickBooks Online syncs both ways at all three tiers; onboarding sessions number 1 on Core, 3 on Advanced and 5 on Enterprise

Dispatch, service assets and maintenance agreements sit in Service Pro at every tier, so a service-led shop pays for the add-on as well. Knowify's mobile app runs on iOS and Android and feeds the daily logs, an Advanced feature. Best for: Knowify for commercial electrical firms that invoice contracts in stages and keep the books in QuickBooks.

Service Fusion

Service Fusion charges the same for 2 people as for 20: no tier caps headcount. Starter is $208 a month billed annually or $245 billed monthly, Plus $325 or $382, Pro $533 or $627, and the annual toggle is labelled as saving 15 percent. The annual rate is charged as one payment at sign-up, so Starter costs 12 times $208, or $2,496, up front. Phone support keeps weekday Central-time hours, with email and live chat alongside it, all described as unlimited. No contract is required, and onboarding comes with the plans.

Each tier carries a "Get a Free Demo" button, and neither a free trial nor a free plan is printed. Service Fusion's electrician page stresses that an estimate converts to a job in one click and can be signed electronically inside the estimate itself, and that dispatching is by drag and drop. On the phone, the technician gets the dispatched job and a map to it, and leaves with photos, notes and signatures taken before and after the work. No certificates, test results or supplier lists are named, though the customer record is said to hold service history and inspection records.

Service Fusion electrical contractor software page with scheduling, invoicing and customer management points beside an electrician at a panel

  • Starter covers estimates and jobs, scheduling and dispatching, invoicing, payments, reporting and text alerts, with a QuickBooks Online and Desktop sync that runs both ways
  • On Starter, job photo uploads, inventory management, job costing, custom documents and eSign are add-ons; Plus includes photos, inventory and job costing
  • Pro adds open API integration, custom documents, eSign, a customer web portal, and staged invoicing with recurring invoices
  • Card payments run through Service Fusion Payments with a Stripe card reader for the field; GPS fleet tracking and the ServiceCall.ai phone system are separate add-ons on every tier

Best for: Service Fusion for a growing crew that wants one flat figure whatever the headcount, and has budgeted for Plus rather than Starter.

FieldPulse

FieldPulse does not publish a price. It describes its model as seat-based and sends buyers to a custom quote. According to its pricing FAQ, a contract buys a set number of seats at the outset, with no term length named, more seats can be added as the team grows, and the rate "depends on what each seat needs access to". There is no free trial. In its place FieldPulse offers a demo on the real product, set up around the buyer's trade and team size. It also calls figures on third-party review sites unverified, so none are quoted here.

FieldPulse describes itself as built for electrical contractors with 5 to 200 employees. Its electrician page names a built-in pricebook, an on-site estimate builder that converts to an invoice in one click, live technician tracking, assignment of jobs by skills, milestone tracking, and card and ACH payments. Work orders, inventory, asset tracking and custom forms sit under more features, and QuickBooks is the one accounting integration named.

FieldPulse field service management software homepage with a headline and Get Demo and Explore our Features buttons

  • The pricing FAQ names Engage (a phone system charged by line and license), Operator AI, Chat AI, Pricebook, Dynamic Proposals, Fleet Tracking and Custom Forms as add-ons, charged flat, by consumption or per seat
  • The FieldPulse electrician page shows the pricebook as built in, so ask the quote what the base seat includes

FieldPulse includes onboarding, video tutorials and written guides, with support by phone and by email or live chat. No certificate or test-result template is named for electricians, and nothing was found on offline use. Best for: FieldPulse for electrical firms of 5 or more that will take a demo and a quote before comparing numbers.

ServiceTitan

ServiceTitan prices per technician and publishes no figure: three packages (Starter, Essentials and The Works), each with a "Request Pricing" button. All three include dispatching, scheduling, call booking, invoicing, pricebook, mobile estimates, advanced reporting, commission tracking and customizable memberships, with payroll management on the first two and configurable payroll on The Works. Nothing says what separates one package from the next. Neither a trial nor a free plan is shown, and the demo request asks how many technicians there are, whether a full-time office employee exists, whether the focus is residential or commercial, and whether the work is service or construction.

ServiceTitan's electrician page splits into Commercial, Construction and Residential profiles. Commercial shows multi-option proposals, job costing, service agreements and a self-service client portal. Construction shows project management, phased billing, WIP reporting, estimating and dynamic forms, and Residential covers booking, marketing and dispatching. The package overview also lists automated checklists, which walk a technician through a job step by step. QuickBooks Online and the Desktop Premier and Enterprise editions are named, and the mobile app is available on iOS and Android.

With the packages opaque, the useful question at a demo is which one carries the checklists and job costing. Best for: ServiceTitan for commercial and construction firms that want one platform for proposals, project costs and service agreements, and are ready to talk to sales to learn the number.

How to Choose Between Them

What is being charged for. The seven charge in different units: per user (Tradify), by job volume (ServiceM8), per tier with unlimited users (Service Fusion), per tier with a few users included and $29 for each extra (Knowify), per employee and per module (Shifton Field Service), and per technician or seat by quote (ServiceTitan and FieldPulse). Headline numbers cannot be compared without a headcount and a job count, so the next section prices a crew of 3 and a crew of 10.

Where the entry tier stops. The cheapest tier seldom holds what an electrician needs on a job. Job photos start at Pro on Tradify ($51 per user) and are an add-on on Service Fusion Starter, which includes them from Plus ($325 annual, $382 monthly). Building custom forms starts at Growing on ServiceM8 ($79), is Enterprise only on Knowify, and is an optional add-on on FieldPulse; Shifton Field Service puts forms in the free Tasks module. Put the form and photo requirement against each tier before comparing entry prices.

On accounting, only Tradify names Xero. QuickBooks is named by Shifton Field Service, Tradify, Knowify, Service Fusion, ServiceTitan and FieldPulse, and a Desktop edition is named by Service Fusion, ServiceTitan and, on Enterprise, Knowify. ServiceM8 names no package on the pages checked.

On contract and trial terms, Tradify and Service Fusion state month-to-month payment, ServiceM8 and Shifton Field Service state no lock-in, and FieldPulse sells seats upfront for a term whose length it does not print. Three vendors, ServiceM8, Tradify and Knowify, give 14 days, Shifton Field Service gives up to 55 days on its modules, and the remaining three offer a demo.

Service work or contract work. Shifton Field Service, ServiceM8, Tradify and Service Fusion are organized around the service call. Knowify is organized around the contract, ServiceTitan pitches project management and WIP reporting for electrical construction, and FieldPulse lists milestone management. ServiceM8 offers progress invoicing from Starter and Tradify from Pro. Shops that mainly need a dispatch board across trades can weigh these tools in our service dispatch software roundup.

Where earlier visits to the same site matter, the test is whether a job keeps its own timeline for each address. Shifton Field Service answers it with job tracking and work order history on the client record.

During a trial or demo, ask each vendor to build a real test schedule as a form and fill it in on a phone. A feature list only says that a form exists.

What 3 and 10 Electricians Cost per Month

Prices checked on 20 October 2026. Only published prices are used, and the assumptions are named here. Every electrician counts as a paid user, entry tiers are taken unless a feature forces the next one, add-ons without a published price are left out, and ServiceM8 is priced from an assumed job count, 100 a month for the crew of 3 and 300 for the crew of 10. FieldPulse and ServiceTitan publish no price, so no sum is given.

FieldPulse, ServiceTitanNot publishedNot publishedQuote only

Tradify's per-user price beats Service Fusion's flat tier at three: Tradify Lite is $141 against $208 for Service Fusion Starter, and the lines cross at five users on annual billing and at six on monthly billing. At ten, the flat tier is cheaper, since Tradify Lite reaches $470. Knowify turns the other way: Core with extra users overtakes Advanced, which includes 10 users and adds job costing, from the 9th user on yearly billing and the 10th on monthly. Shifton Field Service with the Tasks module alone is the lowest published total at both sizes, but that leaves out invoicing. With Invoicing and Inventory the crew of 10 costs $150, level with ServiceM8 Premium at $149 and still without a pricebook or progress billing; annual billing takes 20 percent off the Shifton figures, which brings that $150 to $120.

The rows differ in scope: Tradify Lite has no job photos, Service Fusion Starter treats photos and job costing as add-ons, and ServiceM8 charges for the job count rather than the crew. Two familiar names are left out: Housecall Pro's pricing page shows different figures depending on the options chosen, and Jobber's pricing page could not be read, so neither is quoted.

FAQ

What is the best software for electricians?

For a crew that runs service calls and inspections, Shifton Field Service, our own product, is the pick here; ServiceM8 suits a sole trader who counts jobs, and Knowify suits contract billing. Match the choice to how the work is billed and what the job has to leave behind: Knowify includes progress billing and AIA pay applications on every tier. Check which tier carries photos and forms before comparing entry prices.

What is the best app for electrical contractors?

Shifton Field Service is our pick for the field app: it keeps the job record on the device without signal and syncs later, and it is on the App Store and on Google Play. ServiceM8 runs on iOS and Android, and Tradify on desktop, tablet, iPhone and Android. Knowify and ServiceTitan list iOS and Android. The visible page text of Service Fusion and FieldPulse does not name the platforms of their apps.

What is the best free app for electricians?

Two of the seven publish a free plan. ServiceM8 Free gives 1 user and 30 jobs a month at $0, with 10 AI uses a day and SMS at 10 cents each, which suits a single user. Shifton Field Service gives up to 2 employees with no time limit while no module is on, including task management with checklists, digital forms, reports and the mobile app, which suits a crew of two. Tradify and Knowify list a 14-day trial instead.

What is the best CRM for electrical contractors?

This comparison does not rank CRMs, because the vendors describe customer records differently. Knowify lists a CRM on every tier. Service Fusion describes a customer record with service history and inspection records, FieldPulse a searchable customer profile with a job history timeline, and ServiceTitan lists CRM under its Commercial profile. Shifton Field Service keeps the customer data and the checklist on each task, and its client record shows the past tasks for that client's addresses.

What is the cheapest software for contractors?

For three electricians, the lowest published total is Shifton Field Service with the Tasks module alone: $15 a month, or 3 employees at $5, covering tasks, forms, reports and the mobile app but not invoicing. ServiceM8 Starter is the lowest flat price: $29 for unlimited users and 50 jobs. Tradify Lite is $141, Knowify Core $157 on yearly billing and Service Fusion Starter $208 billed annually. FieldPulse and ServiceTitan publish none. The tiers differ, so these totals are a floor.

What software do contractors use?

The seven fall into three groups. Shifton Field Service, ServiceM8, Tradify and Service Fusion are built around the service call. Knowify is built around contract billing, with progress billing and AIA pay applications on every tier. ServiceTitan and FieldPulse sit between the two, with project and milestone features beside dispatch. QuickBooks is named on the pages of Shifton, Tradify, Knowify, Service Fusion, ServiceTitan and FieldPulse, and Xero only on Tradify's.
