Shifton has today announced a major product update that includes a full redesign of the web experience, a new Inventory module for Field Service teams, and an expanded roles framework for request and approval workflows. Together, these enhancements make scheduling, dispatch, and field execution simpler, more consistent, and easier to control at scale.

A cleaner, faster Shifton: complete redesign

We’ve refreshed the entire look and feel of Shifton to reduce clicks and improve clarity across everyday tasks.

What changed

  • New icon system & layouts: Cleaner iconography and a reorganised navigation help teams find tools faster.

  • Panel-based workspace: We replaced legacy pop-up windows with streamlined panel views so you can review, edit, and confirm without losing context.

  • Mobile app redesign (coming soon): The refreshed UI is also coming to our iOS and Android apps (App Store and Google Play) to keep the experience consistent in the field.

Transition options

Prefer the old look for now? No problem. For a limited time, the classic design remains available. In your account you’ll find a toggle to switch between the classic and new design at any time.

New in Field Service: Inventory

Meet Inventory — a centralised way to manage parts, tools, and assets, keep stock accurate, and ensure field technicians always have what they need.

Key capabilities

  • Warehouses & stock: Create one or many warehouses to reflect real storage locations and trucks; track on-hand quantities and set minimums.

  • Items & toolkits: Add individual tools/parts or bundle them into reusable kits for rapid assignment.

  • Movements & audit trail: Issue/return to technicians, transfer internally, and view a complete movement history.

  • Categories & units: Standardise items with categories and units of measure for clean reporting.

  • Price and cost visibility: Track purchase prices and set item prices to understand job margins and reduce leakage.

Why it matters

Inventory makes every work order smoother. Dispatchers can assign the right kit in seconds, techs arrive prepared, and managers finally see where stock is, who has it, and what it costs.

Updated roles & service zones in Field Service

We’ve clarified responsibilities and tightened control over who can request and who can approve work.

What’s new

  • Requester & Approver roles: Separate roles for the team initiating a job/request and the team (or manager) approving it.

  • Task approvals: Configurable approval steps before a job is scheduled or dispatched.

  • Improved service zones: Cleaner setup of service territories to ensure jobs are routed to the right teams based on geography.

These changes reduce bottlenecks, improve accountability, and help larger organisations enforce policy without slowing down scheduling.

Availability & rollout

  • Redesign: Available now on the web. The classic design remains accessible via the in-account toggle during the transition period.

  • Inventory: Rolling out to customers with Field Service enabled. If you don’t see it in your workspace, contact support to activate.

  • Roles & zones: Included in the latest Field Service update and available to all users with Field Service enabled.

Quotes

“This release is about clarity and control. The redesigned interface cuts friction from daily work, while the Inventory module and expanded roles give operations leaders a precise handle on resources and approvals,” said Shifton’s Head of Product.
“Field teams live and die by preparation. With Inventory and clearer approvals, every job starts on the front foot — right parts, right people, right place,” said a Shifton Field Operations Lead.
